Wild About Horses
by Kristin Bucher
BOULDER... Smith-Klein Gallery presents its second annual Wild About Horses show this month featuring gallery artists and invited guests. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center, which combines horseback riding and therapy for handicapped or injured individuals and at-risk children.
Guest artist Bob Peters, himself a horse breeder, draws on his firsthand knowledge of horses to create realistic oil paintings. Also invited to participate is Nancy Hogan Armour, who paints the wild horses of Chincoteague Island, VA, and Vieques Island near Puerto Rico.
Works by four gallery regulars are also included. Watercolorist Nancy Lax Kozar finds her subject matter in the Colorado mountains; Ben Nighthorse Campbell [see page 10] is a jeweler as well as the only Native American serving in Congress; Hopi jeweler Watson Honanie solder 14-karat gold onto sterling silver to create his unique pieces; and sculptor Siri Hollander uses a combination of cement and steel to achieve the rough texture of her pieces.
